Cynthia Whitchurch
www.whitchurchglassdesigns.comBusiness executive turned local glass artist and entrepreneur, Cynthia Whitchurch has been experimenting and perfecting the art of fused and stained glass for over 16 years. She creates her art by melting and bending colored glass into custom molds producing beautiful pieces including bowls, plates, dishes, jewelry, night lights and more. Her work has been showcased at art studios, festivals and online, and cherished by customers all over the world.
Cynthia’s love and curiosity of how the light transmits through colored glass led her to study stained glass in Virginia. She is honored to have been the last student of late master glass artist Dan Fenton, recognized by the California Glass Exchange as the “walking-talking encyclopedia” for art glass techniques. Presently, she is taking Master Glass Classes from Narcissus Quagliata, considered one of the most significant contemporary artists in glass.
Artist's Statement
I've always been fascinated with water: the ripple from a droplet on the water's surface; the flow of water in a body of water; bubbles as they float to the surface; the power and energy of ocean waves. I especially love to gaze at the ocean and daydream. I love the calming blue, tan, and white colors, and the changing colors of the clouds against the clear blue sky. It's no wonder that these colors are aligned with my preferred glass palette. These experiences solidify my love of water and I choose water as a key subject of my art. The transparency of glass makes this the best medium for me to express myself.
