I grew up on the East Coast but have made my home in the Bay Area since 1989.
I first started making pots as a young adult when I took a class in the evenings at Hinckley Pottery in Washington, D.C. in the 1980's. Since then, I've been continually taking ceramics classes and workshops in all the places I've lived (NY City, New Haven, Boston, San Francisco). I am retired from a career in health policy and now have a home studio in Orinda where I make and fire all of my pieces, including making my own glazes from scratch.

Artist's Statement

I enjoy designing and creating things, in general -- I’ve done a lot of work with fiber (sewing and knitting), as well as garden design -- but I especially love the meditative aspect of working with clay and the ability to create beautiful and useful pieces.

I work from my home studio where I make and fire all of my pieces, including making my own glazes from scratch. I enjoy making pots that will be used every day for dining, gardening and decorating. Many of my pieces emphasize the materials – by leaving clay bare or by altering the surface or the form, itself. I especially love to do alternative firings (e.g., pit fire, saggar, raku) and still marvel at the results that are created with fire and bare clay.
