I am primarily an acrylic painter, and have been doing primarily plein air. I am moving into abstracts. I also do photography, a little linocut, and a couple of soft pastels.
Artist's Statement
I am starting to work towards more abstract, less representational, work, sometimes meeting in the middle. For me, from previous experience, meaningful abstract comes from my unconscious mind. It is hard to go there and stay there while trying to create. I did it once, then gradually slid back into the normal world. Been trying to go back. To me, if I know the exact meaning behind an abstract I've done, I've failed. It was surface level. The unconscious does not communicate in words, except maybe when the need is important. If I can look at someone else's abstract, and not get a meaning in words, but return to it time and time again, it is communicating on that unconscious level, were words will not cover the whole gamut of meaning.
